The VIPS Program allows the Haltom City Police Department hopes to obtain community participation by giving citizens an opportunity to use their talents and skills to aid in the departments vision of community policing.
VIPS is designed to educate citizens about the internal operations of the Haltom City Police Department and to provide a broad overview of the law enforcement profession. The volunteers will then be able to assist the department in a vast number of ways, such as:
>Assisting citizens with questions
>Performing clerical assignments
>Data entry
>Assisting at special events
>Staffing information booths
>Answering telephones
>Assist Neighborhood Watch Coordinators
>Assist in searching for missing persons
With VIPS assisting in important area such as these the patrol officers will be able to spend more time in their assigned areas. The volunteers will be able to fill in gaps in programs and provide invaluable assistance that might otherwise be unavailable due to budget constraints. VIPS will add a level of support and are not intended to replace officers, but rather supplement them in their work.
