Health Insurance
The City provides health insurance for full-time employees and eligible dependents through CIGNA. Two health plan choices are offered: HMO and Point of Service. The employee portion for the HMO coverage is paid in full by the City. The employee POS coverage is subsidized. Dependent coverage is available for employee purchase with a premium subsidy. Rates vary depending upon coverage level and plan selected. Health insurance is available for employees that retire from the City with 20 years of service.
Dental Insurance
The City provides dental insurance for full-time employees and eligible dependents through Safeguard. Two dental plan choices are offered: DMO and Indemnity. The employee portion for the DMO coverage is paid in full by the City. The employee indemnity coverage is subsidized. Dependent coverage is available for employee purchase with a premium subsidy. Rates vary depending upon coverage level and plan selected.
Retirement
The City participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS), which is a qualified tax-deferred retirement plan. Participation is mandatory with TMRS for all full-time employees. You will have 7% of your salary deducted from your paycheck pre-tax, and the City matches employee contributions on a 2 to 1 basis upon retirement. Vesting in the system occurs at five years with retirement eligibility with 20 years of service or after reaching age 60 and having five years of service with TMRS.
Social Security
In the late 1970’s the City opted out of Social Security for full-time employees but employees have 1.45% deducted from their pay for Medicare taxes.
